Rich Horton's Market Summaries: Summary: Say..., 2005Say... seems to have settled on annual publication instead of semi-annual. The 2005 issue, #5, was subtitled "have you heard this one?". The editors are Christopher Rowe, Gwenda Bond, and Alan De Niro. For this issue (and apparently future ones) they went to perfect binding, and a nice color cover. I thought it a very good issue. There were 9 stories, one a novelette, one a short-short, just under 30,000 words of fiction. Some of the best stories include Larry Hammer's delightful present-day Paul Bunyan story, "Paul Bunyan and the Photocopier"; Janni Lee Simner's well-done "fairy tale from the point of view of the villain": "Practical Villainy"; and Sonya Taaffe's intense "White Shadows", about a "fetch" wandering through a city in the guise of various people. |
