Rich Horton's Market Summaries: Summary: Fundamentally Challenged, 2004Fundamentally Challenged is actually an anthology, apparently with no intention of becoming a regular magazine. (I had formed the impression, I'm not sure how, that there were going to be multiple issues.) It is distributed on CD, however, so it fits in my "Alternative Electronic Distribution" category. There were a total of 15 short stories (two of them short-shorts), for about 50,000 words of fiction. The best two stories were Jay Lake's "Heading West", about a man heading from Boston to Oregon in the wake of an odd disaster; and Melanie Fletcher's "That Time of the Month", about the advertising industry in a world where women are basically neuter most of the month. |
